This
wonderful unabridged audiobook brings Roald Dahl’s extremely funny verses to
life. One side tells the true story
behind fair tales, including Jack and the Beanstalk, Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfs, The Three Little Pigs, Red Riding Hood and Cinderella. In these versions, the morals of the stories
are very different. For example,
Goldilocks is a brazen little crook, and she ends up with two wolf coats and a
pigskin traveling case. All the stories
feature surprising violence and silliness, and are both very pleasing and
horrifying. Anyone with a sense of
humor should enjoy this terrific performance by Alan Cumming, which brings out
the word play and the fun of Dahl’s creativity.
