"Goddess, may I begin the massage?," asks
hunky sexologist Clint Arthur, dressed only in a colorful blue and red wrap
tied around his middle. "You may,"
replies Marta Lucia, the goddess in question, as she undoes her orange and
yellow wrap to reveal her breasts.
Clint, in an unusual move for massages, begins by sucking Marta’s toes. The setting seems to be some large enclosed
deck with a pool, surrounded by palm trees.
Marta proceeds to instruct Clint in the art of Goddess worship, which is
apparently a feature of tantric sex.
The whole lesson has a musical background of female vocals with a new
age feel, and lyrics related to goddesses.
The lesson lasts 67 minutes, and is proceeds slowly. Clint takes his time with the massage, and
it takes 25 minutes before he is singing "Ommmmmm" into Marta’s
yoni. "Move energy up from my yoni
up through the centerline of my body," she instructs, and Clint does this
with his hands. He seems to succeed,
because Marta sighs deeply. Clint
proceeds to use his mouth and fingers not just on Marta’s yoni but on the rest
of her body, apparently giving her at least two orgasms, the second of which
leaves her sobbing with conviction.
It’s a powerful moment in a video that mostly feels a little fake.
As an instructional video, it is
short on theory. We learn very little
about the ideas of eastern thought or the practice of tantra. But Marta does give detailed instructions
about massaging her whole body, including her genitals. When it comes to inserting his fingers
inside her, we don’t get many details about what Clint is doing with them, and
obviously we cannot see. He keeps his
fingers there for a long time, all the way through her orgasms and even while
she is sobbing, when probably most people would choose to hold their partner
close, and there’s no explanation of that choice. So we are left pretty much in the dark about some crucial
details, and if any potential viewer were serious about wanting to learn about
trantric goddess worship, he or she would want to consult an expert or at least
read a book on the subject.
Yet to be fair, Goddess Worship
is quite different from standard pornography.
Clint and Marta do not have intercourse, and there is some real
information about touching intimately provided in a helpful way. I would imagine that most people who might
buy this video would use it more as erotica than instruction, but it may
provide some guidance anyway. It is
difficult to pitch any sexual advice material at the right level, finding a
balance between being crudely pornographic, coyly uninformative, and medically
clinical. Some viewers will find this
video either silly because of its new age ideas, or else disgusting because of
its highly explicit shots of inserting fingers. There should be some viewers for whom the balance is about
right.
The DVD is shot with a digital
camera, but there’s some effort to vary the camera angles and move around the
couple rather than just pointing the camera at the sexual organs. There are no extras on the DVD, and it is
not sectioned into chapters, so one has to play it like a video. Both Clint and Marta look to be in their
thirties, and are attractive enough.
The inserts of the DVD have a rather home-made feel, but for the most
part the production qualities are acceptable.
On seeing the case and at the start of viewing, I had low expectations,
and while I found the whole thing a little tacky, it left me pleasantly surprised.
