Jessica Singer grew up in the 1980s in New Jersey. She had issues with food fairly early on and they got worse. She got bigger and became very self-conscious about her body. Puberty started early for her and that also caused problems for her. She had difficult relationships with men. She was unhappy. She went through a lot of bad experiences. Eventually, she became a vegan and sometime after that she started eating more healthily. She also realized that she was a lesbian and she found a stable long term relationship. She and her partner have created a non-profit organization to promote animal welfare. Singer performs the unabridged audiobook herself, and she brings plenty of feeling to her words – she spent much of her young adult life in the theatre, so it makes sense that she would be a good performer. It takes 11 hours. Readers at Amazon.com seem to be positive in their reception of the book, and the writing flows well. But 11 hours is a long time to devote to someone else’s life story when their story is not very exceptional, and the book could have done with a lot more editing. There is entirely too much detail about juice fasting and its supposed virtues.
