This second graphic novel book in
the Boneyard series is a great deal of fun — it continues the
supernatural story of Michael Paris and his spooky friends. In the first book,
he defeated Satan, but now he has a visit from the IRS and finds that the
grandfather who bequeathed him a graveyard also left him huge financial
problems. Now he owes half a million dollars, and he has thirty two dollars in
his checking account. His friends are ready to help — his romantic interest
the cute vampire Abbey, Glump the ugly creature from the underworld, Nessie the
sex-obsessed D-cup sea creature, Ralph the large canine who wears dark shades
and a leather jacket, and repairs cars in his spare time, and many others. In
an attempt to help Michael, they organize a charity boxing match, between Ralph
and the huge Frankenstein monster called Bru’. Of course, it doesn’t go as
planned, and the friends have to do some quick thinking to stop a riot from the
large crowd. It’s a lightweight story, and the plot is thin, but nevertheless Moore’s
writing is lively and his artwork is charming. Fans of spooky graphic novels
should enjoy this one a great deal.
