Georgia Tate Jamison has not had an easy life. Her
mama died when she was a baby, and her father proved to be unfit after one
vacation spent with him. Her grandparents have raised her. Georgia Tate has had
a good life with Nana and Granddaddy, but all of that changes when Nana
suddenly passes away. Georgia Tate is reeling from this, and the fact that she
has just learned the truth about her mama’s death, when Granddaddy decides she
should go live with her daddy. Georgia’s life takes a tragic turn while under
her father’s care.
Gigi
Amateau has created a remarkable character with Georgia Tate. Her sweet
demeanor and innocence makes reading about a difficult topic such as
molestation much more bearable. Georgia has a way of looking at an
uncomfortable situation that most adults would not be able to do. Even though
she is from a tiny town that does not even allow alcohol, she is more tolerable
and accepting than most people. Amateau has an amazing talent for creating
characters that you care about. Georgia’s friends in Florida are fleshed out to
the point that even though they are only in Georgia’s life for a small amount
of time, they leave a lasting impression on the reader.
Georgia
has a way of communicating her feelings and the feelings of the adults around her
that is touching and real. The author leaves the reader with feelings of hope
that this remarkable girl is going to do wonderful things with her life.
