Lucas
is the resident cupid at Thomas
Jefferson High
School. His matchmaking
is well thought out and highly successful. When his
best friend Cate needs his help, he sets out to find
her his best match ever because she deserves the best guy ever. That guy turns out to be Derek Griffin, the new guy who
just moved to Denver from New York. Lucas is
having a hard time separating his feelings for Derek, from wanting to hook Cate up with him. He feels like a
bad friend but Derek is giving off vibes that Lucas may be the one for him.

Shaw
does a wonderful job creating a character the reader can sympathize with. He avoids any stereotypes with Lucas. The
pain that Lucas feels about his situation is genuine and raw and something that
all of us have felt in our lives.  This is the classic tale of what should
you do if you’re in love with your best friend’s guy.  Shaw eloquently
tells the story through a different perspective. The
supporting cast fits in nicely and each have their own
story to tell.

Shaw
does not make this a preachy story about a person coming out.
Lucas has already dealt with his sexuality before the story starts. This is just a story about a boy falling in love. Shaw allows his characters to have flaws and not always be
likeable. The ends are not all tide up neatly. Some questions are left unanswered which matches the tone
of the book.
