This illustrated book for very young children is about the
first snowfall of the year. The text is
poetic and mystical: “The children know there is magic in these woods. The snow told them.” The illustrations are very pretty, showing a
red-curly-haired girl and her younger blond tousle-haired brother, and
snowflakes in geometrical beauty. These
images echo the text in their wonder and worship of nature.
