This Yoga to Go DVD has
three 20 minute practices: Energy to Go, Strength to Go, and Stretch and
Soothe. The production quality is rather rough. Nancy Wile appears against a
white background on a blue yoga mat. She mostly guides the viewer through a
voiceover, and the voice is a little distorted. In the background there is
bland music which seems to be on a loop. Nevertheless, the actual workout is
refreshing and worthwhile. Wile’s manner is pleasant, and the camera work is
smooth.
The first practice is fairly easy.
The pace is moderate, and the stretches are not deep. The work is mostly from
mostly standing poses, with lots of forward bends, some forward bends, and some
twists. The second practice is more energetic. It includes more downward
dogs, upward dogs, locust postures, bow poses, warrior poses, lunges, bridges,
ending with some twists while lying on the back. The third practice is more
relaxing, going slower, with more focus on stretching, especially in the
hamstrings and lower back.
If you do not mind much about
production quality, and are mainly looking for fairly simple and helpful short
practices, then this DVD is worth considering. Most people will prefer
different yoga DVDs, set in more beautiful locations, with more DVD extras and
flexibility of programming different practices. But Wile seems like a good
teacher, and if she could create a DVD with higher production values and more
variety, it would be much more appealing.
